Benetton is running a fairly controversion ad campaign. Unhate.
Quoted from their site: What does UNHATE mean? UN-hate. Stop hating, if you were hating. Unhate is a message that invites us to consider that hate and love are not as far away from each other as we think. Actually, the two opposing sentiments are often in a delicate and unstable balance. Our campaign promotes a shift in the balance: don’t hate, Unhate.
They have a kiss wall where you can go along and place your own “unhate” image ….. very effective advert, probably still cannot afford their clothing, but effective advertising campaign.
The images are very emotive, and I think different images will resonate with all of us differently. I believe the “pope” picture had the most backlash … Benetton is an Italian company …..
The key to helping build a global culture of tolerance and acceptance of diversity lies in the future generations.
I think it is a great “concept” to teach our kids, and ourselves. Don’t hate something, you may not like it, or love it, but don’t hate it – hate is such a strong emotion, and I think clouds our judgment on an issue. <I am as guilty as the next person.>
Not sure what your thoughts are on this campaign. I need to stare at it a bit more, it does give me pause for thought.
