Long Live Bridezilla …….

Yesterday was really not a good day in the world of wedding planning, or more importantly my wedding planning.  I had a real melt down and total humour failure. I think I actually screamed at my friend Joyce when she called me to offer me support and assistance, I was also having a little cry at my desk.  I know,  I should really stop crying at my desk at work and also not scream at Joyce.

I totally lost the plot yesterday, and was feeling a tad on the desperate side. I cannot believe that me – a nearly sane, very jaded, very rational individual seemed to have lost all sense related to confetti and wedding cake, but there we have it.

No doubt, this was the first of many subsequent break-downs, so do tune in for more.  I still have a script for Zoloft that I have not filled, so at least I can get some medication if things start really getting much worse.

I think the dress lady thinks I am going to pull a runaway bride move, so is trying to be supportive regarding my inability to commit to the dress – or any dress.  Bless her cotton socks.

So today, I am better than yesterday.  Still woke up at about 3am with a thousand things running through my mind, and lay there staring at the ceiling.

Kennith was very supportive, my friend Tanya wrote me a lovely email to offer her support and to try to give me some perspective on reality – which was great, I could just give her a big old kiss.

Loads of people have said some nice things, when they might have said “Come here so I can slap you, you stupid cow, now snap out of it!”  But they didn’t, which I am mighty grateful for.

I hope that Kennith and I go and see some venues this weekend and then commit to one and then I can tick that off and start worrying about the next thing on my list.

I still have not paid for the dress though …..

Love reading your blog – it’s so entertaining…

When we decided to start planning our wedding in Dec 2008 (got married Aug 2009). We decided to look at places that would alow us to use there premises for a wedding (private game farms, guest houses etc). We chose the Natal Midlands and really landed a bargain… We were lucky they had a little chapel and we found a minister who would travel to the site to perform the service. The venue hire was only R 4 500 and food was less than R 200 / person for a gourgeous, 3 course a la carte meal (no cattle trough buffets)… Maybe look at small country hotels etc. They also give excellent rates to guests who want to stay over… It was our best choice and didnt bankrupt us.

Also, I must say, I was ready to get married in a potatoe sack, I really didnt care… And then I tried on some dresses and oh my, who doesnt want to feel incredible on her wedding day? They do take you to a whole new place!

Good luck with the planning, I know it’s not easy 🙂

Thanks Colleen – I really have tried everything I can think of and have also now tried to book restaurants in great areas, so we have a head charge and not a venue charge, but I am still working on it. Today I got hold of a place and it was all great, I gave them my menu, they cam back at a reasonable price and it was all fine – or so it seemed. I then asked about the chapel, that I know they had – and they said, sure you can use that it will be R5000.00 – for a chapel??? I mean seriously, I just want to stand there for 60 minutes, what the hell are they thinking? Its the fact that everyone starts off with these ridiculous prices without thinking that just irks me. We are getting married in the middle of winter, so far out of season that it is frightening, but we are getting prices like it is the 16 December!!

I need a large glass of wine, and a lie down right now.

  2. So for now, let’s just rename you Bridezilla and smile about everything. It will be fine – I promise. If I was nearer I would have helped – only thing I can help now is this: Do go look at Flowers in the foyer in Stellenbosch – talk to Hermien. Google and you will find. Great blommies. She will not know me in the pseudonym though, so just state the budget and aske for her ever stylish and creative advice.

Thanks for your help – I may miss flowers all together, and alternatively might be to go to a place my friend recommended moonshine or moondrops or something, and then buy flowers from there and beg and borrow vases and get her to do the decor part. But to be honest, I really cannot think flowers when I do not have a venue. The venue will sort of dictate what will be needed, so I am taking a deep breath and trying to settle myself.
